Chenalho, Chiapas
Black natural wool canvas to decorate walls, it has been woven on a waist loom by artisans from the town of Belisario Dominguez in Chenalhó, Chiapas. In this tapestry, the warp and weft are made of hand-spun lamb's wool that is later mounted along the loom, a bath of atole is added to give flexibility and resistance to the threads when weaving the weft. This process can only be carried out in natural sunlight. The artisans add the unspun sheep's hair on their loom, generating the designs or patterns in vertical lines. When the canvas is finished, the wool is "felted" to finish the canvas and it is dyed in large rusty drums with mud that has a high iron content and "chacté", a plant that, combined with iron, undergoes a chemical reaction and reaches that pitch black
