Oxchuc, Yoshib, Chiapas
The cushion cover is woven on a waist loom with cotton by artisans from the Tzotzill area in Chiapas. The weavers make the fabric with striped designs that imply great complexity in the technique, when finishing the fabric they give it a fine finish, with different joints and details.
Care: We suggest washing by hand with the piece inside out, drying without exposing it to the sun.
Technique: Backstrap loom
Jolom Maya Etik
Jolom Mayaetik (“Mayan Weavers” in Tzotzil) is a cooperative of 256 Tzotzil and Tzeltal women weaver members organized in 12 community groups in 5 municipalities of Los Altos de Chiapas. For more than 30 years we began to organize together with the civil organization K ́inal Antsetik to weave together the construction of our economic autonomy and our rights in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Already in 1996 we were legally constituted as a cooperative society that is integrated and managed by ourselves. Since then, participating in the Cooperative offers us a source of resources through work that starts from putting our own skills into practice, the result of ancestral knowledge transmitted from generation to generation by our mothers and grandmothers.
