Jolom Maya Etik
Jolom Mayaetik (“Mayan Weavers” in Tzotzil) is a cooperative of 256 Tzotzil and Tzeltal women weaver members organized in 12 community groups in 5 municipalities of Los Altos de Chiapas. For more than 30 years we began to organize together with the civil organization K ́inal Antsetik to weave together the construction of our economic autonomy and our rights in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Already in 1996 we were legally constituted as a cooperative society that is integrated and managed by ourselves. Since then, participating in the Cooperative offers us a source of resources through work that starts from putting our own skills into practice, the result of ancestral knowledge transmitted from generation to generation by our mothers and grandmothers.
